While on this Nutrisystem journey I'm learning a lot about nutrition and weight loss and what foods that are good to eat to improve one's health. One thing I'm most impressed about is the importance of protein in our diet.

Protein foods are good and play an important role in weight loss.

Protein provides your body with essential amino acids as well as healthy fats from sources such as nuts. When you lose weight it is important that you are losing fat and not muscle. Having a protein rich diet allows your muscles the nutrition they need to help combat atrophying muscles.

These positive proteins are called power fuels on the Nutrisystem program. They are crucial to weight loss because they digest slower, help you stay full longer, and they help with muscle tone which, in conjunction with daily activity, can help you fell strong.

Essential Power fuel protein foods that are good to eat.

When selecting your power fuels you want to ensure you are picking lean cut meats, low sodium (140mg or less per serving) meats and cheeses. Be sure to pick fat-free milks and light yogurts with no added sugars.

On the Nutrisystem program you add 3 power fuel proteins to your diet each day; 1 with breakfast, 1 for Mid morning snack, and 1 with lunch.  My favorite proteins have been;

  • Natural Peanut Butters
  • String Cheese
  • Nutrisystem Protein Shakes
  • Almonds

Success Report!

I've now been on the Nutrisystem program for two weeks. It was a bit of an emotional week for me, as we prepared for the husband to leave for his internship. I took one meal off as we had one last 'date lunch' before he left. I was amazed how after only 1.5 weeks on the program, eating that food actually did a number on my stomach. I wasn't super sick, but I immediately felt the difference in my health after that meal than from the days when I eat pure on the Nutrisystem program. It was amazing to feel that difference. It makes it much easier to stay on track now.

So where is my progress this week?

Starting weight: 185.2
Week 1: 179.4
Week 2: 176.8

Total weight loss: 8.39 lbs.

I can't believe I've almost reached my first 10 lbs weight loss goal in just 2 weeks! I'm hoping I will pass that 10 lbs mark before my 10 year wedding Anniversary in two weeks! At this rate, I should easily reach it!

I hope you will continue with me on my  journey as I blog each week of my experiences and success with Nutrisystem Nation over the next four months!

Almonds are a great choice. We snack on those a lot.
