I love being a mom, really I do; but sometimes I just really need some adult women conversation! That’s why I love having a girls night! But often I don’t have the opportunity to always get a baby sitter so I can leave the kids behind and get out, so the next best thing is having a girls night in! To make it even more fun, decide on a theme and prepare a fun meal and decorate for the theme and then invite some great friends over to enjoy the girls night in with you!

Hosting an Asian style Girls Night In.

The Husband has been gone on his internship for about two months now, and I’m reaching the point where I’m really needing some great adult women interaction to keep my sanity from playing the single mom role! So I decided I wanted to have a girls night in party with a few friends.  I’ve seen the Lean Cuisine Asian dinners on a few different blogs I love to follow and it gave me a great idea for a fun girls night in; Asian style!

So off I went to my local Sam’s Club to gather supplies for my girls night in. I love Sam’s club because it offers such great deals on buying products in larger quantities than at regular stores. The basic membership is only $40 for the year, and even better we can definitely save more than that on just buying 2 bags of cat food at Sams club instead of where we usually buy it! Oh yea, it definitely pays for itself rather quickly. We more than paid for it with our savings on our very first shopping trip.

For my girls night in, I wanted to have a fun time with the girls, but I know many of us are trying to watch our weight or eat healthy, so I didn’t want to offer a lot of junk food, so I though the best way to enjoy Asian is to try out the new Lean Cuisine Asian dinners! After visiting the frozen foods section, I discovered Sam’s Club has a package of 6 Lean Cuisine Asian style frozen meals for only $11.25! What a great deal! Normally in our stores they are anywhere from $3-$4 Each! Definitely a steal here!

As much as I love the great deals I found at Sam’s Club, I do however wish there was a lot more variety to choose from. These were the only Lean cuisine #FrozenFavorites meals they had to offer. I would love to see a greater variety in brands and flavors within brands for all things from grocery, beauty and toys! I can see myself really having fun doing our Christmas Shopping at Sam’s Club as long as they actually carry the toys my kids want.

You can view our entire shopping trip from our Google + album to see all the other amazing money saving deals we found! After I got everything we needed for our girls night in party from Sam’s club then I started the planning and decorating for the girls night.

Decorating for girls night in.

With any good party  you need fun decorations! I wanted to do an Asian theme party, so out comes all the fun Asian decorations we’ve been collecting over the 10 years of our marriage. We both love Asian decor so we have quite a lot. This is just a very small portion of what we have around our house.

After bringing out the nunchucks , katana, Chinese fan, oriental bells, and Chinese dragon statue it was just a matter of placing them around the living room. Add some flowers to the dinner arrangement, prep the Chocolate fondue table and start dipping some fruit and fortune cookies in the chocolate.

But that’s not all the fun we have up our sleeves! We also planned on creating fun paper lanterns to decorate our living room.

Girls Night In DIY Paper Lanterns Tutorial.

To add flair to our decorations, I decided to make some paper lanterns to hang around our house. I was quite surprised at just how easy they are to create!

1. Get a rectangle sheet of paper.
2. Fold in half (hot dog style).
3. Cut slits along the fold line on the paper. Don’t cut all the way through.
4. Unfold the paper and then curl around into a cylinder. Tape or staple together.
5. Make sure the inside of the fold is on the inside of the cylinder.
6 Take a smaller strip of paper, attach one side then fold over and staple to the other side to create a looped handle.
7. For added flair you can cut the slits at a strong diagonal direction.
8. When folded into a cylinder the diagonal slits create a more dramatic paper lantern.
9 When all your lanterns are created string on a rope, yarn or other string and hang as you desire around your home.

The great thing about making paper lanterns this way, is that it’s so easy that even the kids can help! And the kids have a lot of fun making them! It’s a great family craft activity!

You can mix and match different color papers for a variety of different paper lanterns, or you can use all one color, or even find fancy Asian print paper and make your own fancy paper lanterns.

Once all the lanterns are created, you can then string them on yarn or rope or any string you desire and hang them around your home. I simply tied yarn onto each loop and  then taped that yarn to my ceiling across my living room.

With the paper lanterns made and hung it’s time to greet the guests, cook up some lean cuisine meals and have a Girls night in Party!

Hosting a Girls Night In with Lean cuisine!

So why use Lean Cuisine frozen meals on a girls night in? Isn’t it a time to cut loose and enjoy yourselves? Well, yes! I love girl nights because it’s all about great food and good company. But at the same time with everyone trying to watch what they eat, trying to be healthy you don’t want to go and ruin that for everyone when you invite them for a fun evening! But you also don’t want to serve bland food.

Lean Cuisine meals are packed full of flavor, nutrients and great ingredients and very few calories. They offer a great meal choice that every woman can love and still feel good about her food choices afterwards.

I love how convenient they are. They are very easy to cook. Just cut a slit or two into the wrap so the air can vent, and then heat in the microwave. Then you are finished and you have a hearty and delicious meal complete!

Another issue I dislike about parties is having a big clean up afterwards. But the Lean cuisine meals offer very little clean up afterwards. No dishes to wash, just a little trash to pick up. So you can have your party and not worry about working hard afterwards. Relax all evening long!

The most popular meal of the night was the Sesame Chicken. It features 9 grams of protein, 2 grams fiber and only 330 calories. The best part is that it tastes better than many frozen dinner options, is healthier and in a perfect pre-portion size. The chicken was tender but not soggy. The noodles were a different texture than many were expecting, but they weren’t bad.

One of my friends that came to our party tonight said she often takes Lean Cuisines to work with her because of how convenient they are.  They are easy to take to work, easy to warm up and she doesn’t have to sacrifice her health just because she has job that keeps her from having lots of time to make a healthy meal. Although she uses Lean Cuisines a lot for work, she hadn’t tried the Asian flavors yet and was quite excited to give them a try.

Another favorite of the night was the Ginger Garlic Chicken. It was filled with vegetables, chicken and rice with a brilliant blend of spices that caused for enjoyment with each bite. There wasn’t a single complaint about this dish!

The Teriyaki chicken on the other hand, did have one complaint. The vegetables were quite scarce in this flavor. We all agreed it would be great to see more vegetables in this one. But that was the only complaint about this flavor.

We had a great night at our girls night in! We had great company, delicious food and best of all it was simple, easy to set up, easy to prepare the meals, enjoyable, very little clean up afterwards, and it offered a healthy meal option for all of us trying to live healthier lives!

Sure you could say we ruined it all with the fun chocolate Fondue for dessert, but with Dark Chocolate and fruit, it’s actually a rather good choice for a sweet treat with lots of antioxidants and health benefits; as long as they are kept in proper proportions.

Host your own Girls Night in (GNI)

It doesn’t take a lot of time, money or effort to put on your own girls night in. Just pick a fun theme, choose an easy #FrozenFavorites dinner entree, decorate with fun kids crafts and then invite your girls friends over!

Yes I buy Lean Cusine all the time. I like their chicken fried rice, it’s better than some of the other varieties of fried rice, even the Asian brands in my opinion, lol I also add some of my own vegetables chopped up in the dinners as I agree they are kind of sparse. I’d made those type of lanterns years ago, and had forgotten how to do it, (I kept thinking there must be something I’m forgetting because it seemed too easy, haha)…. so it was great to have the reminder! Thanks for the article :)
