It's been a long road, but I think I'm finally starting to see my hard work pay off as I see my boys starting to enjoy reading. What's even better is when the books they read are rewarding and teach valuable lessons to what I'm trying to teach them each day in life. That is why I love the Howard B. Wigglebottom Series so much! It teaches values in how to treat people, how to behave and so much more, all while the kids read an enjoyable story! My 6 year old has started having temper issues when he doesn't win at anything he tries to do. So I knew it was time to bring out the Howard B. Wigglebottom learns about Sportsmanship: Winning Isn't Everything.

This book introduces 4-8 year olds to concepts like respect, camaraderie, teamwork and the pleasure of playing sports and games for the fun of it. The tenth book in the award winning Howard B. Wigglebottom series. The series is produced by the We Do Listen Foundation, a non profit organization; which is geared towards helping children learn effective ways of communication and to find inner peace.

Once the book arrived, I found out I was not the only lover of these books! The 8 year old said that they have some of the Howard B. Wigglebottom books in the school library and he's read a few of them. He really liked them so he was thrilled when he saw a new one to read! Now that is exciting, when the 8 year old is extra excited about a book before we even open it's pages!

Even more surprising is that the 6 year old is the one who got a hold of the book first and read it all the way through, without help, and was telling us all about the story! This boy doesn't like to read if he doesn't have to, but he really was excited about this book.

First of all, I love how this book comes in hardback form! It's probably just my personal preference, but when I get a book for my kids, usually the hardback covers last longer and they are treated nicer. So I love that feature.

I also love the layout of the book. There are photos on every page; which is great for the beginning readers, so they don't get bored of long lists of words. And even on the pages when there is the most text, it is still well balanced with a large photo, spacing of sentences, and the words are easy for little readers!

The artwork of the book was very well done. The pictures were colorful, inviting and the characters were lovable by both male and female readers! And every picture in the book related to the story, and helped illustrate the lessons of the story.

After the 6 year old had his own individual turn with the book, he then allowed the 8 year old to sit down and read it with him. They both really enjoyed the book, the story, the pictures and the 6 year old was very proud of himself for being able to read such a "large" book all by himself!

And to top it all off, not only did it have a brilliant lesson about not being angry if you don't win, and how to have great sportsmanship, but also the book has wonderful key points to discuss with your kids! It helps you get the ball of communication started, and had great questions I could ask, that I wouldn't have thought of before! I was able to discuss about sportsmanship, and how to be a team player, and all sorts of fun topics with my kids that really helped them understand the story better as well as realizing that it's ok to come in 2nd or even last place some times. They learned it was more important to have fun and be kind to those around you, than to win. What a wonderful lesson; and my kids were able to learn it in such a fun way!

Overall; I love this book! I love the design, the colors, the writing, the story, the discussion points; just everything! This is definitely one of my favorite children's books and I now want to collect ALL of them!
