As a blogger, I spend many hours on the computer writing and networking, so it stands to reason that I would be in the market for one of the most comfortable mouse options on the market. I've tried many different mice, but when it comes to comfort, easy of use, and aiding carpal tunnel relief, the mouse I find to be the best option is the Logitech trackball mouse.

Benefits of a Trackball mouse

If you have never used or heard of a trackball mouse, you are truly missing out! When I first switched to a trackball mouse,  it was a little odd at first, because instead of moving the mouse around a pad, you simply rotate the trackball. It is an optical mouse that reads the movement of the trackball and that is how it moves the cursor on your screen.

Logitech Trackball Mouse Review

Using a Trackball mouse offers many benefits that using a traditional mouse cannot match.

  • Accuracy: a trackball mouse reads smaller movements and offers greater accuracy due to the optical mouse reading the small movements of the ball, instead of trying to distinguish movements on a flat surface.  It is loved by artists, gamers, and military personnel.
  • Ergonomic comfort: due to the design and ease of use; a trackball mouse offers more comfort. It reduces stress and strain on the wrist and is the best device to use for those that suffer with carpal tunnel and other wrist pain. Since you only move your fingers around the trackball, instead of using your hand, wrist, arm and shoulder to move a traditional mouse around the mouse pad.
  • Portability: due to the optical mouse reading the trackball, there is less need for a complete flat surface for the trackball to work. It can be used on many different surfaces whether they are flat or not. It allows you to use the mouse in a variety of different locations and offers much more options. I often can place it right onto my thigh and still get perfect use out of it. I am able to work online in many different locations with the laptop on my lap and my Logitech trackball mouse on my thigh or the small seat space next to me. I don't need a lot of space for it to work; just enough for it to sit down, and it doesn't even need to be sitting flat.
  • More compact: the mouse itself may not be smaller than other mice, but the desk space needed is greatly reduced. Since you don't move the mouse around, the amount of desk space needed is much smaller. Really all you need is a tiny space to place the mouse as it never needs to move around. Traditional mice need a large flat surface area so you can manipulate the mouse around the surface.

Features of the Logitech wireless trackball mouse

It was almost 10 years ago when I was first converted to the use of a trackball mouse. All of the benefits listed above played a large role in my conversion. Way back then, the trackball mouse we had used the old PS2 port. Then we upgrade computers and no longer had a PS2 port. I was forced to go back to the conventional mouse and I about went batty. Seriously, it was the worst few years. I had a lot less accuracy in the mouse movement, more wrist pain, and definitely was getting sick and tired of constantly having to pick up the mouse and move it back to the center of the pad because I had ran out of room…yet again.

Logitech Trackball Mouse, Review

Finally after a few years, we discovered that Logitech had made a new trackball wheel optical mouse that used a USB connection. Oh I was thrilled! I immediately ordered it and was content for many years. It lasted about 5-6 years. But just recently my best computer friend started to dye on me. The left click button wasn't reading as accurately any longer. I was rather sad. This trackball mouse has been with me through a lot. It was right there with me through my World Of Warcraft phase (two years of hours upon hours of Orc slaying, questing, and Raids!) It was with me every year when I did our taxes, it was with me when I started my craft business; and it was right there with me when our craft business turned into what is currently JadeLouise Designs; our family lifestyle blog. It also survived three toddlers!

So it was time for me to replace my old friend; and I knew I didn't want anything but a Trackball mouse. I searched high and low; and after many hours I discovered that only Logitech had a quality trackball mouse that would fit the bill.

The new Logitech wireless trackball mouse M570 has everything I was looking for in a mouse. Not to mention it is the #1 selling Trackball mouse on the market!

And these are just the most common benefits and features of the M570 Trackball from Logitech.

A personal look at the Logitech Trackball mouse

It was love at first sight with the new M570 trackball mouse. It took no time at all to unpack it from the wrapping and get it into action. There was no hardware CD to use and install. You simply plug in the device and Windows automatically found the software and had it installed; all in less than 5 minutes.

Logitech trackball, ergonomic and Optical mouse in one

After using the M570 wireless trackball mouse, I will never be able to go back to a wired mouse again! The freedom of a wireless mouse is so amazing. And the trackball mouse works better than I could have dreamed. I have been using it for weeks now and haven't had a single problem. It functions exactly as it claims. And I hope that it will last me just as long as my last trackball mouse.

The trackball is smooth to the touch, it glides easily and there is no lag between my thumb's movements and the curser movement on the screen. The design offers great comfort for those that spend many hours on the computer and quite frankly I'm able to get more done in less time with this mouse.

Would I recommend this product to anyone? Oh goodness yes! I'm quite passionate about this mouse, and have praised it to many personal friends and family members in person. It's not just one that I used once and it worked well so I tell you about it. Oh no! This mouse is one that will be my constant computer companion for many years to come and I will throw tantrum and fit after tantrum and fit if I am ever forced to use any other kind of mouse. Don't believe me? Just ask my husband when he told me to just use his mouse when my old trackball mouse died. He grew very tired of my whining that it just didn't work as well. Lol. His ears were mighty happy when the M570 trackball mouse arrived. So yes; I would highly recommend it especially to any one who spends more than a couple hours on the computer a day.

I really like this mouse because it looks like something that would make my hand hurt less with the way it’s shaped. I would love to have something like that to help relieve the pain from my arthritis and fibromyalgia.

I have never had a chance to try a trackball mouse. I think for me it may be a hard adjustment to make at first, but once I got used to the sensitivity and not having to move my hand around I think I would come to prefer it. Right now I just use the pad on my laptop and that was really hard for me to get used to too. I tried using a regular mouse last week and I had to detach it, i just couldn’t get used to it. So maybe I should try a trackball mouse…Thanks for your review! I found it very helpful.

I completely get it. My Dad has been using the trackball mouse for years and he refuses to use anything else. I don’t have one myself but I do find it to be very comfortable and I would definitely consider buying one (even though my husband would probably laugh at me lol).

I would love to win this. I’m a computer technician and I do a lot of work at my computer helping other computer users remotely. When I’m at home I’m on my personal computer quite a bit as well, and regular mice are not as comfortable anymore.

I did get a chance to try this mouse out at work; one of the people I had to visit deskside had this mouse and I found it very comfortable and easy to use. It’s now on my wishlist for Christmas, unless I win it of course :)

The feature I love most really is the ergonomic design I have been choosing ergonomic since the beginning of my computer use and have never been disappointed, but this mouse would best be wanted by my son for it’s time and space saving ability. great product info.

The design looked ergonomic to me even before I read the review. I, however, am left-handed and like to switch my mouse over to a left-handed function, and I can see that would be a problem.

I read your review thoroughly and was wondering. Is this mouse compatible for left handed people? I’m the only left handed mouse user in my house, my kids would love it, but I was wondering if it can be used by lefties?

Reply

23 Amber Edwards November 18, 2012 at 11:54 pm

The design of the mouse is such that no, you could not use it with the left hand. I’m left handed, but thankfully was trained at a very young age how to use a mouse with my right hand. So I can still use this mouse and not have trouble with right hand/left hand confusion when it comes to mice. I know they do make a different type of trackball mouse where the ball is on the top center; where it would be used with your fingers instead of your thumb. That is the type of mouse my husband has. I can’t stand it. lol. I much prefer the trackball with the thumb. But it may be the better option for you if you use your left hand on a mouse.

I like the idea that you don’t have to move the mouse, which sometimes can skip or not glide as smooth. I’m sure it might take me a little bit to get used to using it like that, but I’m sure in the long run it will be great!I also like the receiver is compatible for up to 6 devices!! It looks like a very good mouse, and i would love to try it out. I’m on the computer many hours a day, and would like to try to avoid carpal tunnel syndrome! Great review. I don’t think you left any details out!

I like that the mouse takes up less room than a traditional mouse and that it can reduce carpal tunnel pain. I use the trackpad on my laptop right now and I’m intrigued by the idea of using this mouse with the laptop to see if I could reduce the occasional wrist pain I have.

These are very comfortable mice. I’ve used the wired model. Plus, they use less space, so if you, like me, have one of those tiny slide out desks, you’ll have room for both the mouse and the keyboard on it.

I absolutely love this and could really use one. I used to have a different mouse with a roller ball on it just like the way this one is set up. They are very comfortable especially for me with my rheumatoid arthritis and my tendonitis. I spend a lot of time on the computer writing poems, songs, etc… But with the mouse I have now my hands constantly cramp up and it makes it very hard on me.

But I remember back when I had my roller ball mouse and how it would ease the strain and tension in my hands and allow me to type for longer periods without the pain. Plus the one you are offering is very portable and is not constrained by a cord. This is totally amazing.

Thank you so much for this opportunity.

My favourite features are the accuracy and the ergonomic features of the Logitech Trackball mouse. My current mouse is skittish (adjustments in the driver properties don’t seem to make any difference) and my hand is stiffened into a ‘clawing’ position at the end of a session, so I’d love a better alternative.

I have been thinking of getting a wireless mouse for my laptop, so I read your review with interest. The one thing I wondered about was the movement, constant movement of your thumb. I have some issues with arthritis and am concerned that the way this mouse works would aggravate it. What are your thoughts.

Reply

68 Amber Edwards November 14, 2012 at 1:21 pm

I’m not sure how it would affect your thumb. I have carpal tunnel so it has been a major blessing for me to not have to constantly move my arms and wrists in motions that trigger that pain. I’ve hear many people that suffer from arthritis love the less movement that is requires by this mouse and that it has helped them as well; but I can’t personally attest to it.

I have wanted to try one of these style mice more so now that my arthritis in my wrist is getting worse. This would have been a better mouse if they add a couple more buttons and it had a hyper scroll wheel.

This is a great review! I tend to get pains in my wrist while using the mouse and this would really help with not having to move it around so much!

The comfort rating for this really catches my eye. I have carpal tunnel so this could possibly help while I’m doing work on the computer. Being wireless is also a huge plus because my kitties like to play with them.

I love the looks of this mouse. I’ve been thinking of getting one because I’ve been spending more time online lately.

I wonder if that would help with my arm pain. With the amount of blogging I do I find my hand cramping up and also I find it hard to direct the mouse sometimes.

A trackball is all that I will use. It’s the only thing that doesn’t aggravate my arthritis. I can comfortable use the computer with it. I’ve never tried the wireless but I am sure it would be great. I like that you can turn it off to save the battery.

I love that it has a track ball and even though it would take me a while to get used to it, I would love to try getting used to it.

i definitetly need a mouse like this! I spend hours each day on the computer and my hand hurts really bad from using the mouse so often. I think this type of mouse is the way to go.

I love the Logitech trackball mouse. I have one and use it daily. If I use a regular mouse my hand hurts very badly. I would recommend a trackball to everyone. I would love to win this for my daughter.

I have a teeny tiny desk, so this mouse is exactly what i need! As it is, I can barely use my regular mouse. I know it will take my kids a bit to get used to the trackball, but I’m sure they will pick it up in no time.

This is really cool looking, I have never heard of it before now. I like that it reduces stress on the wrists as I run into trouble with that and my work space is really small so the fact that you need less room to use it is great too. My sons play video games it would be neat to let them try it out and see what they think

My husband has always preferred trackball mice- he plays games on the computer and says that the trackball is so much easier to control a characters movement than traditional mice. He can control everything with his thumb rather than use the whole mouse and Logitech has always been the company he knows makes great products.

I love the unique shape of this mouse. Since I use a computer for most of the day, I’d like a mouse that is more comfortable to use.

I actually prefer the track ball over the conventional mouse but we have a kid in the house (I won’t mention names) that loves to take things apart so my last wired track ball lost it’s ball. Now that we are all older..I would hope my things last longer and could even think about getting a track ball again. Thank for the review.

I love the trackball mouse- I like the small universal usb plug and agree about the wireless ability. I have not used this mouse so not sure how the thumb ball would work for me, but Logitech trackball mice are the way to go.. also like ability to turn it off to save battery life.

I looks like a great unit. I tried many years ago to acclimate myself to a ball-type mouse, I just could not get it. The one I had was bigger and maybe that was an issue. This unit looks much more ergonomic and smaller. It would be great to try again.

It amazes me how small the wireless inputs are for the computers these days. Long gone are the big clunky plug ins for wireless mouse and keyboards. Love Logitech, a great reliable brand.

I definitely would benefit from this item. I have arthritis in both hands and it would not be as painful to use. I would be able to use my laptop more because I can use this on uneven surfaces.

I am always hesitant to try new things. Even when I went from the wired plug in mouse and keyboard to the wireless. I really like the looks and details of this trackball mouse. It was really weird not to have to take the ball out of the bottom and clean all the lint and trash from the roller wheels. This gives me something to look forward to as I’ve used logitech before. My first cam came from them. THank you so much for sharing this!
