Just because one is a busy woman or mom, it doesn't mean that she can't still be fashionable and have a flawless look. But for me with 3 kids running around and needing constant supervision, it's rare that I can spend a lot of time by myself in the bathroom to apply my makeup, so for the longest time I would not wear makeup and not feel my best. That is until I discovered the wonders of mineral makeup!

With mineral makeup I can apply my makeup quickly. My favorite feature is that the mineral makeup is more natural and it doesn't irritate my sensitive skin. It is also a great  chemical free sun protectant, water resistant, helps your skin look younger, and features anti-inflammatory properties!

Mineral Hygienics Fair Start up kit

It is actually quite simple to achieve a very natural yet flawless look with mineral makeup, and I'm going to show you how. I'll be using the Mineral Hygienics Fair Shade Start up Kit; which includes

  • 3 makeup brushes,
  • 2 different foundation shades,
  • a mineral sun kissed enhancer,
  • and a silk translucent finishing powder.

Let's Begin!

Creating a Flawless Look with Mineral Make up, step by step Tutorial

Step 1: Conceal:

The first thing you want to do is start with a concealer. Unless you have absolutely perfect skin on it's own, almost every woman has a few flaws they'd like to be a little less noticeable. That's why I love the Wonder Cover Concealer Brush! It is fantastic for using your regular color powder foundation and turning it into a concealer.

Simply apply the powder to the brush, tap off a little excess and then apply to the spot that needs the most concealing.

WARNING: Below you will see photos of me without make up! Scary thought, I know, but I figured it was only fair to warn you. You have been warned, I can not be held responsible for any reactions you may have.  ;)

Step 2: Applying foundation

Depending on the amount of coverage you want, you can use the light coverage flawless face brush for a lighter cover. Same as before, you will want to swirl the brush into the foundation color then lightly tap excess off of the brush back into the foundation container.

The flawless face brush has soft hairs that gather just the right amount of minerals for blending.

Or if you desire a full coverage, then you will want to use the Full coverage kabuki brush.

The kabuki brush gathers a more potent quantity of minerals in the bristles, thus applying a full coverage to your skin. You can probably tell the difference in the amount of mineral makeup each brush gathers just from the pictures.

Now you begin application. You will want work in a circular motion, beginning near the cheekbone. Then move outward around the face, onto the forehead, back towards the cheeks and on to the nose. You simply keep blending until you are satisfied, but you will need to keep in mind that the minerals will warm to your face. This "warming" usually takes place within 5 minutes of application so taking a short break and returning is a great way to make sure all is well. This is usually when I then move on and do my eye make up and then when I'm finished I return and check my foundation to ensure it is blended to the proper level.

Also, depending on the season, and what type of look I'm going for, or what type of lighting I will be in most of the time will also depend on which foundation colors I will be using.

Porcelain mineral makeup look

Here I was going for a more porcelain look as I was more dressed up and I wanted my eyes to stand out more, so I used more of the fairest foundation, but for normal everyday wear, I usually use less of the lightest color.

Step 3: Enhancing your features.

Now we get to move onto accenting the facial features with the blush! Mineral Hygienics has one of the best bronzing mineral blushes I've ever used as it blends perfectly with my skin tone and doesn't scream "look at me! I'm wearing blush!" The cool Kiss mineral enhancer gives just enough sun kissed look with glimmer.

You prep the brush just as you would with the foundation. This one you will most likely want to use the light coverage flawless face brush, to ensure you don't get your enhancing too dark.

Then you simply apply to your cheeks as you would any other blush. If you want a sun-kissed glow over your entire face, you will want to get a lighter application and very lightly blend over your face.

Step 4 Finishing touches:

If you haven't already, take time to apply your eye makeup. Well, all except your mascara, sometimes the final touch of the mineral makeup covers up some of the mascara, so I always leave it for last.

Now we will be taking the light flawless coverage brush again and applying the Silk Translucent finishing powder. This powder leaves you with a perfectly airbrushed look. It helps to absorb excess oil from your skin, and I've found it also helps to set the makeup so it lasts longer and doesn't rub off as easily.

This time, you will be applying the finishing powder to your entire face. I even include my eyes (closed of course) as I love how it perfectly sets my eye shadow, and gives the perfect blend. And as I mentioned before, it really does help your makeup last longer and not rub off as quickly.

After you apply the Silk translucent powder you are set to finish off with your mascara and lip coloring. When all is said and done, you have a flawless look that is natural yet still appealing!

What I love about Mineral Hygienics Mineral Makeup;

I absolutely love how easy it is to apply my makeup each day. You may think applying all those "layers" of mineral makeup would take extra time, but really I can have my entire makeup regime finished in under 20 minutes. I also love how it gives a very natural look without a lot of liquid mess. And if any happens to get on your clothes during the application process it can simply be brushed away.

Mineral Hygienics Start up kit brushes

I also love the brushes. I've tried a lot of different kabuki brushes, and I have to say that the Mineral Hygienics kabuki brush is the softest brush I've used. Not to mention it also leaves the least amount of bristles behind after use. That is one thing I recently discussed with my sister as we both used to use the same brand of kabuki brush. The old one would always leave bristles behind on your face after almost every application. It was very annoying. But these brushes usually only leave behind one or two bristles every few days of use.

I've tried other mineral makeup in the past, and some brands only offer you one foundation color, and it's always the luck of the draw if it will truly match your skin. Other brands offer two different shades that you can blend together, but they've never had a fair enough color to truly blend with my skin, or they had too much yellow tint and you could always tell I was wearing makeup instead of having that natural look I love.

Yet Mineral Hygienics is able to offer me the very fair toned foundation and it doesn't have the extra yellow tint, thus it ensures I can find the perfect blend to my skin tone every time!

Okay, now I know what I have done wrong in the past. I believe I skipped the all important first step – concealing – and it did not look good. Thanks for this great step-by-step tutorial!

Great tutorial, I don’t wear make up very often, mostly because I have no idea how to apply it properly

I love mineral makeup but hate how messy the loose powder is. You look great in your photos, even before the makeup :)
