About a month ago I was visiting my sister in Utah. Her husband is brilliant and finds all sorts of fun games and books and toys that are quite family friendly and still very fun! So the weekend we were there, he was at it again; and I was introduced to the Perplexus Original 3D Puzzle game. He was showing my sister the game on Amazon and said, “This is what I want for Christmas! And the kids would have a lot of fun with it too!” So when my sister and I went out on our girl time shopping trip (which we always have to do each time I visit, even if it’s just to the grocery store to pick up food for dinner) we went looking. Guess what? We found where it was suppose to be on the shelf but it was SOLD OUT! The store employee said, “yeah, we got a few of them in, but they sold really fast. It’s a hot toy!”

So this intrigued me. When I got home, I visited all the stores in my area and the next town over and you guessed it; they were all sold out too! Now I was very intrigued and I looked it up online again, and I was hooked on the idea of the game! My husband loves puzzles, mental challenges, 3D puzzles and the likes; and I thought my boys would really enjoy this game too!

So the day I was found out that Plasmart Inc had accepted our offer to review the the Perplexus Original, I was on cloud nine! Here is a little about Perplexus:

PERPLEXUS is a maze game where players maneuver a small marble around challenging barriers inside a transparent sphere. Unlike traditional flat-surface mazes that are composed of one path, PERPLEXUS houses various challenging tracks with 100 barriers providing a frustrating three-dimensional experience. Players select the track they would like to attempt and must work with gravity to carefully shift, flip, and twist the sphere to guide the marble. Players can race each other or the clock.

Perplexus has received numerous awards including the Toy Insiders hot 20 list, Oppenheim Toy Portfolio gold Best Toy Award, and has been nominated for the Toty Educational Toy of the Year Award!

Our Perplexus arrived 2 days before the 8 year old’s Birthday; so we waited to introduce it to the family until then. My boys were quite excited about it when I brought the game out!

The Husband was the first one to play with it. It took a few minutes to get the gist of what you were suppose to do; but we got a great laugh out of the instructions on the box on how to get started:

Roll the ball to one of the starting points. If you can’t find them…put Perplexus down and slowly back away!” HA! Designers with a sense of humor; I knew I was going to love this game!

Once you find the starting point, you flip, twist and spin the Perplexus to move the ball through the Maze. It even has little numbers with an “arrow” circling the number letting you know which direction to go to the next number; guiding you through the maze. Once you reach 100 you’ve found the end and you’ve won! If the ball falls off the track (which it WILL happen) simply roll the ball around until you get back to the start and begin again. Once you conquer the game, the fun doesn’t stop there; then you can try racing your friends or the clock and see just how fast you can do it without the ball falling off the track! You can watch the short video below to get a better idea on how it works exactly.

There hasn’t been a day that has gone by since we opened this game, that we haven’t played with the Perplexus. Now that is quite a feat! Usually we play with a game the first night, have fun and then put it away until the weekend rolls around and bring it back out to play with. But with the Perplexus; it has been played with multiple times a day! In fact I just had to break up a fight between my boys this morning over who’s turn it was to play with it! Not to mention the fact that I’ve only had one turn the night we pulled it out of it’s box because either  the Husband or my boys have always been playing with it! It really is that fun! Plus it’s the challenge, are you really going to let a small ball of plastic and a little metal ball outsmart you?

The game is designed for ages 6 and up; although even Jade enjoyed playing with it (advised, never leave unattended with those under 3 years of age due to small parts inside–could cause a choking hazard). The Perplexus is great for Child Development as it allows children to exercise their gross motor and dexterity skills and improves their hand/eye coordination. The other feature that I absolutely love about the Perplexus is that there are NO BATTERIES REQUIRED! How wonderful is that for the parents! Quite the money saver!

As I mentioned before, this game gets played with every day; and I don’t feel bad about letting my kids play with it, because it develops puzzle solving skins as well as dexterity; trying to roll the ball around the track without letting it fall off the track. This game would make an excellent birthday present, or a “just for fun” gift. It would also make a wonderful travel game, as all the parts are inside the ball, you don’t have to worry about losing small parts in the car; and it will keep the kids entertained for hours.

Is the Original too hard for you or the kids? Don’t worry, they now have a Perplexus Rookie for ages 4 and up! It’s a little easier for the younger kids.

Is the Original too easy for you? There is now the Perplexus Epic for ages 8 and up which is a bit more difficult.

I’m quite tempted to get the Epic for the Husband for Valentine’s Day as he was able to conquer the original after 2 days, and the Epic looks quite…well…EPIC!

You can discover more about Perplexus and all of their games, including help if you get stuck, single player, multiple player and freestyle variations to the game for more challenges on their website.

You can also follow Perplexus on Facebook and Twitter to keep up to date on product news, deals, discounts and giveaways!

Perplexus is available in retail stores across the country, you can visit their website for a store locator in your area that carries it, or you can also find it on Amazon if there isn’t a retailer in your area.

Or for a limited time you can enter to win it from our GIVEAWAY!

So tell me; is this something you might like and enjoy in your home? Who do you think would play with it the most? Which game would you most likely buy; the Rookie, Original or Epic?
